Tits up! I thought that one had gone the way of transvestite (as have my even more favorite pungent but uncannily spot-on ones).

The word “conservative” is still a coherent philosophical system, it just no longer describes a political set of beliefs, and certainly not the Republicans. (I call myself a forgiving conservative, meaning I believe in personal accountability and rewards for merit and hard work, but I also believe that a social safety net must be available for those who, by accident of birth or circumstances, weren’t blessed with the embarrassment of advantages that I have been.)

Thanks for reminding me of the great John Hiatt. Gonna listen to the whole fantastic album now, because it feels like rain.

You gave the best description of today's Republican party. There is no such thing as hypocrisy if you don't have any standards to live up to. The former Republican party died the day Trump became the nominee for president in 2016. I am speaking as a former Republican who had never voted for a Democrat in my life until 2020 (I voted third party in 2016).
